FAQ

1. How should Mule Slippers be built for wide feet without slipping?

Focus on three areas: forefoot width, shaped footbed, and secure vamp fit.

Mule Slippers need more room at the front, but they cannot be made wide everywhere. Without a closed heel, an over-wide mule lets the foot slide forward.

* Forefoot width: Add space at the toe box and ball of the foot. For U.S. and Canadian sizing, women’s B is standard, so C/D works for wider fits; men’s D is standard, so D/E works for wider fits.
* Shaped footbed: Add a shallow heel cup and forefoot dip to help the foot sit inside the sole.
* Secure vamp fit: Keep the upper close enough to hold the foot without pressing the instep.

Avoid simple size scaling. Build around a purpose-built neutral last, more instep room, balanced width, and a proper toe box curve.

* Neutral last:*Develop one shared last from the start, not a resized men’s or women’s last.
* Instep room: Raise the upper curve so high-instep buyers can slide in without top pressure.
* Balanced width:Use a C/D fit position for U.S. and Canadian sizing to balance men’s width and women’s hold.
* Toe box curve:Avoid a steep front slope. Keep enough toe-box depth so toes can sit fully inside the shoe.

The goal is fewer SKUs without loose fits, tight insteps, or toe pressure.

Use pure wool lining, GRS-certified uppers, and silver-ion odor control.

* Pure wool lining: Helps keep feet warm, breathable, and less sweaty.
* GRS-certified upper: Uses recycled suede-look or lambskin-look fabric to lower leather cost and support sustainability claims.
* Silver-ion odor control: Add an Ag+ antimicrobial coating to the insole or midsole surface to help reduce odor-causing bacteria.

Treat each material differently: high-GSM felt with surface smoothing**, and **suede with PFAS-free water-stain coating.

* For felt: Use 400–600 GSM felt for upper panels, then singe, shear, or light heat-press the surface to reduce loose fibers and early pilling.
* For suede:Apply a PFAS-free water and stain repellent coating before packing to reduce water marks, stains, and color change.
* For QC: Test felt for pilling and suede for water repellency before shipment.

Felt complaints usually come from fuzz and pilling. Suede complaints usually come from water marks, stains, and color change.

Use full insole bonding, memory foam or high-resilience foam, and grooved outsoles.

* Full insole bonding: Fully glue the insole to prevent air pockets and rubbing.
* Softer midsole: Add memory foam or high-resilience foam to improve step-in comfort.
* Grooved outsole: Use wave grooves or fine channels instead of large smooth outsole areas.
